This weeks Haiku Prompt challenge from Ronovan Writes really appeals to me as I have a bit of a fascination with time. Time always seems a thoughtful, contemplative topic to me so both of my haikus are more serious in nature. The first haiku ends on an a more positive yet sad note with – new life replaces old, as opposed to new life surrenders. It’s amazing where a few lines of haiku can make your mind drift off to! Quite unintentional, but interesting how both of my haikus end.
Below is my photo of the Corpus Christi Clock in Cambridge, a popular tourist attraction. My first haiku is inspired by this weird and wonderful timepiece.

Welcome to my blog: M J Mallon - Kyrosmagica Publishing. A blog about magic, books, writing, laughter, and much more! I'm a YA fantasy author, poet and reviewer. My first YA fantasy novel The Curse of Time - Book 1 - Bloodstone is set in Cambridge and Book 2 - Golden Healer is now out too. I have a penchant for travel and have relatives in far flung places, Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore, (my birthplace.) I grew up in in Bonnie Scotland, in Edinburgh, and now live in Cambridge. I love sunny, hot places, particularly Rome, Venice, Portugal, Barcelona, and I forgot to mention the sun drenched beaches of the Caribbean, how could I? I am lucky to have been blessed with two lovely daughters and a husband who I fondly refer to in this blog as my black sheep. Family joke! With my passion for travel, culture, beautiful beaches, good food, books, theatre, writing, and humour, I hope to keep you entertained. I'm loving every minute of this creative journey, please join me.

Love this! And I absolutely loved seeing that wierd and wonderful Corpus Christi clock too!! It was a lot bigger than I had expected!
Thank you so much, yes the Corpus Christi clock is certainly weird and features in my fantasy children’s book, which I’m still looking for a publisher for!
I feel the racing in the first and a poignant sadness in the last – so true as a metaphor to lost dreams, or in my case, the seeds of many creative projects, started and left unfinished – such power in a few words – Haikus are growing on me, this challenge is the rain they need! Ha! xx

Hi Olivia. I’m so touched by your kind words, particularly that you found my poetry amazing. I’ve just recently rekindled my love of poetry, and started tentatively writing some. So your words mean a lot. Comments such as yours mean so much, and I find your blog so inspiring too. I can’t imagine myself at your age even thinking about blogging, (I suppose the equivalent when I was young was my pen and paper writing!) I used to keep a diary, mainly of my travels abroad, and I wrote about my cat. I don’t know what happened to those early writings, sadly I think they are lost. Thanks again, Marje 🙂

Hi Olivia. I think it’s great that your class is required to use blogs. I know that my daughter would love to get involved in blogging too. She is keen on beauty, fashion, and photography. I may be doing a feature at some point about her photography on my blog. She is a bit older than you, year 10, doing her GCSE’s next year. I’ll definitely check out your class blog and tell her all about it to. If only I could find those old compositions….. It would be great if you could let me know what young people such as yourself would like to see in my blog. Keep up the good work. Marje

Thanks so much! Yes, at our school, we are very into technology and using it to enhance our learning. So blogging is the perfect thing! I would definitely recommend that your daughter get involved as its a great way to express yourself and find a community with similar interests.
