Self-Publishing – Your Fellow Authors are not Your Enemies – Let’s Help Each Other

I couldn’t agree more with wonderful blog post from Don Massenzio. Indie authors are stronger together.

Unknown's avatarDon Massenzio's Author Site

As we enter the holiday seasons, I wanted to bring back this post that is one of the first from my blog. I still truly believe the ideas in this post. Let’s help each other out. We’re all on this journey together.

High stress fightIf you are like me, you are aware of the thousands of other authors that are in the self-publishing universe on social media platforms. We all belong to groups on Facebook and we promote our books, blogs, giveaways, and events. We start to see the same names over and over relentlessly touting our work.

As I first entered the self-publishing world, I viewed all of these authors as people that were competing for my readers. I wanted to out-promote and out-sell all of them. Over the past year or so, however, my view has changed. Instead of viewing my fellow authors as competitors, I have come to think…

Rodeo #3: Travel with a Twist – The Winning Entries and my flash

I didn’t win but was thrilled to learn that my friend Colleen Chesebro won first prize!

First Place: A Visit with Grammy, by Colleen Chesebro, who wins a cash prize of $25

Jess ran. She couldn’t miss this bus, or Grammy would worry at her late arrival.

She stumbled into the queue as a woman towing a wheeled suitcase pushed past her. Jess swerved to miss it, whacking the woman’s elbow with her own. She stepped out of the way and bumped into the man in front of her.

“Sorry,” Jess muttered.

“Ouch! Who’s there?” asked the woman.

“It wasn’t me,” said the man.

Then, Jess remembered. They couldn’t see or hear her, only feel her ghostly touch. She didn’t need to ride the bus to visit Grammy – she flew.

Wonderful news. You can read all the winning entries via this link:

The very silly entry below is mine! On re-reading this all I can think of is… Whatever was I thinking of…  I liked the idea but it definitely needed a longer format such as a short story to pull it off… Lol. Hope it makes you laugh…

Michael opened the pill pack and saw a tiny warning – you may experience unknown side effects. He disregarded caution and swallowed. As he boarded the plane, he felt no flight anxiety, but a weird sensation lingered around his nipples. He took his seat and within seconds he fell asleep. Before he knew it, the plane landed and he made his way towards his lover. His body trembled with excitement. As he approached her, she looked past him. She wasn’t wearing her glasses, so he hugged her. She shrieked.

His huge breasts and an absence between his legs overwhelmed her.

Crazy! Oh my…

I’m one of many International contributing authors in Ghostly Writes Anthology with my short story:

Ghostly Goodbye by M J Mallon

Ghostly Goodbye is a paranormal love story about a young woman called Iris who can’t get over her husband’s death. She is mourning him so much that she feels dead inside. Her husband Ed sends her a ghostly message from beyond the grave via an old forgotten garment in her wardrobe. She responds by dragging herself from her tomb-like bed and he draws back the curtain of death to visit her in a most unusual way.

Guest author: Karen Hugg ~ How My Cat Died, Was Revived, and Shook My World

Fascinating guest feature: Karen Hugg on Sue Vincent’s blog. A cat’s near death experience created an idea for a novel.

Sue Vincent's avatarSue Vincent's Daily Echo

Have you ever been so shaken by an experience that you had to write about it? That happened to me a year ago with my cat. She’s now fourteen-years-old but we got her as a stray in 2004. My dog Arrow had cornered her in our backyard. She was a beautiful ragdoll calico with a black patch on her nose. Arrow had bit her, but not hard, so we rushed her to the vet to try and save her. After she was stitched up, we contacted our neighbor whose garage she had been sleeping in, but the neighbor told us she didn’t want her. Meanwhile, our little stray had a warm disposition and chirpy chattiness and sweet playfulness. So, with the cyclists in the Tour de France riding up the Col de la Madeleine that day, we brought her home and named her Madeleine. We joked it was Arrow’s punishment…

One month until Christmas

It is the 25th of November! And you know that means that in a month from now you’ll be stuffed with nice food, will have gift wrap torn to pieces all over the place (or neatly folded in a corner of the room), you’ll have piles of books and toys and things you have no use for and don’t much like either piling up in your living room (or maybe not as people know your tastes).

But for now, we are not there yet. Those who celebrated Thanksgiving feeling a bit rounder after the endless feasting (definitely not fasting) over the weekend. Wallets are lighter after Black Friday sales, which have come to countries where before no one knew this event. Last year still there were only a few shops that had BF offers…

Create your own awesome design at canva.com for free!

This Black Friday, as traditional publishers are throwing millions of dollars into advertising, a lot of us indie authors are finding ourselves swept under the proverbial rug.

So to give us all a boost, I’d like to propose that if you’re a self-published, independent author, drop a link (Amazon only, please) and a sentence or two about one of your novels in the comments here, especially if it’s on sale today.

And if you’re a reader and you love to escape into the magical world of books, consider buying indie! Find the links (mine included) in the comments.

And don’t forget to please share this post!

Thank you, from the bottom of my little writer’s heart. ❤
