A Healthy Halloween

Perhaps you’d like a healthy halloween? Wonderfully appealing visual delights on Elyse Salpeter’s blog

elysesalpeter's avatarElyse Salpeter

Come on, even kids will eat this spooky snack! Come on, even kids will eat this spooky snack! Just the title of my blog post “A Healthy Halloween” sort of sounds sad, doesn’t it? I can hear people whining already,”What do you mean a healthy Halloween? No chocolate? No gummies? No high fructose corn syrup? What the heck are you doing to me, lady?” Work with me here. I’ve got some ideas for a Halloween Party where your guests will love the food and won’t be leaving with a stomach laden with artificial flavors and fifty ingredient fillers that they can’t even pronounce. How fun is this? How fun is this?

So, I started thinking… if I WERE to throw a healthy Halloween Party, or serve my kids fun spooky food, what would I serve? Here were some photos of super cool things I found on Pinterest that I think would be a hit for all age groups. While buckets of chocolates are…

Writer’s Quote Wednesday – Prejudice

I’m reblogging Lance’s wonderful contribution to last week’s Writer’s Quote Wednesday. He feels very passionately about speaking out against prejudice, and discrimination as I do, so with this in mind I’m sharing this on Kyrosmagica. Please reblog and share to get this message out there. It is one world in which we live, if only we could accept differences which in my view make the world a much more interesting and exciting place to live. Embrace cultural diversity. Thanks so much. 🙂

Writer's Quote Wednesday Image borrowed from Silver Threading’s blog

This is my latest contribution to Writer’s Quote Wednesday, hosted by Colleen Chesebro of silverthreading.com. This week, I also want to link it back to Ronovan’s Be Wonderful on Wednesday (#BeWoW) share. I encourage you all to follow these links to discover some stimulating posts.

Please forgive me for being a little self-indulgent this week, and also for being greedy.

I feel the need to use one of my own quotes which I feel is very appropriate to the times in which we are living, and especially in Europe. I want to combine that with my own personal life motto which I formulated when I was fifteen years old. So I am giving you two for the price of one, and the price you must pay is just to read this post, so it is almost free.

These follow on from the…

Did you read my 10 Tips to Make Blogging Enjoyable. Traps to Avoid? If not, it’s still there…waiting. Why do I mention it, other than hoping those of you that missed it go and read it? There is actually an 11th Tip. Unfortunately I didn’t think of it in the 11th hour, I thought of it after that. But that just means I get to write another Blogging Tip article.

Plan, Organize, Organize, oh and Organize!

We think we organize, but we don’t. We have some categories we click the little box next to for each post but we begin to write things and come up with random categories. Before we know it we have countless categories or we have posts in an existing handful that don’t make sense.

Organizing from the very beginning of blogging makes for a lot of great benefits.

  • Easier Reader Navigation
  • Better Reader Enjoyment

A reader was confused.

After reading a persuasive blog post about the value of Pinterest, he inquired of the writer, “Is it possible for authors to use Pinterest to get attention to their writing.

I only have one word for this reader and anyone else wondering.

Absolutely!

When inspiration hits me!

Another reblog this time from R.V. Ocampo’s blog – Remember An Inspiring Ocean – this was just so beautiful that I couldn’t resist it.

You may know my son’s story. For once, I have no problem repeating it for those who do not. I have a very good reason for it that I have been bursting to share!

In 2009 my son was 25… a good looking, successful young man with a fast car, nice apartment near the coast and a very promising career. That ended on July 4th when he was left for dead in a Bournemouth alley, stabbed through the brain in an unprovoked attack.

2009 before the attack 2009 before the attack

I have written before of the terror of the next days as he underwent brain surgery to remove the shards of shattered bone from the left hemisphere of his brain. I have told of the weeks of heartache as we waited to see if he would live or die, while his brain bled and swelled, causing further damage to the brain stem itself…
