Thank you Maya Angelou

Very thoughtful and inspiring post about Maya Angelou.

Maya Angelou’s words, written and spoken have had a profound effect on my life, and now doubt they will continue to.
As a young mixed race girl, confused with identity it was Maya’s words that helped me understand myself as I grew from child, to adolescent to young adult and the woman I am now. The poem that is my go back too when the doubt sneaks into my consciousness, and out who I am and how I am perceived, more by myself than others is her poem phenomenal woman.

Phenomenal Woman
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
