The following piece of poetry was inspired by my working as a lingerie stylist at Rigby and Peller.
It’s a Cinquain which I discovered about on Poetry Zone.
A Cinquain has twenty-two syllables in five lines (two, four, six, eight and two).
Here’s the full poetic story:
That Twinkle In Her Eyes is Magic
Two dear husbands,
Five years ago they say,
Holding back unspent daily tears,
Pressing to her breast bone,
Tender solar plexus aching,
Her shoulder straps,
So they don’t dig so much,
It’s my job, but it’s more than that.
Her tea, coffee,
Water, no saccharin,
She only wants love, and lovers,
I gulp down her sweet life.
Thirst-quenching her lonely sorrow.
Met on a bus,
A random meeting place,
A common thread both are widows,
Instantly became friends,
A little lighter, the laughter,
Her friend gasps, ‘Beautiful.’
She says it and really means it.
Words wrap heartache,
In kind tender tissue,
To keep a safe, invincible.
Glows with vivaciousness,
Twinkle eyed desire, magic,
Third time lucky,
He’s on his way to her,
Doesn’t know it yet but he is,
If he’s younger,
He’ll not dare outlive her,
I see her living ninety plus.
Not a figment,
Of some kind of fiction,
Clearly have it all figured out,
Spellbound and lost …..
In her new reflection,
The mirror shines with glowing praise.

Thank you Samantha, love playing around with poetry. 🙂
I like the shape ones too…there was quite a famous one like an umbrella..but I can’t remember the name of them or the poet…
I follow this poet who has a great blog and sometimes does wonderful shape/visual poetry: https://wordsinthelight.com/visual-poetry/
Ooh I shall go and have a look when I’ve finished catching up, it sounds lovely!
Definitely recommend Samantha. 🙂

Thank you Colleen, I started writing this some time ago and have been working at it to make it right so your comment means a lot to me. 🙂
Your writing is really progressing, Marje. The more we do the better we get! Love it! <3
Thank you colleen. I am working really hard to improve, so your comment is very encouraging. 🙂 xx

Loved this, Marje. Love keeps us young 🙂
Such a clever poem Marje. Most enjoyable and I would imagine tedious to not only write but making sure the syllables are just right. 🙂
Thank you Debby. It is quite tricky getting all the syllables right but I don’t mind. I like a poetic challenge!
Well you did a beautiful job! 🙂
