A fascinating post by my sis Adele Marie Park about the Navajo Rangers living jn a paranormal and danferous world. Reblogged from The Sisters Of The Fey.
#writerproblems: #characterdeath in #storytelling (Part 1: Noooo, Billy!)
Jean Lee is talking about #characterdeath on her blog
You know the scene.
The kind that makes you go, “NOOOOOOOOOO!” because a beloved and/or cool character is about to die.
Every time. Seriously, every time I see Predator, I say, “Nooo, Billy!” at the screen. As a member of the audience, I’m invested in seeing the characters’ survival against the Predator. I want to see the characters’ skill sets aid them in overcoming the conflicts and obstacles that await them before the journey’s end.
This can be said as a reader of any high-stakes story, really. Look at a few big SFF series for examples. We want Captain Kirk and his crew to survive. We want Harry Potter and all his friends to survive. We want the Fellowship of the Ring to survive. We want Katniss Everdeen and her loved ones to survive. We want Luke Skywalker and his friends to survive.
We know these people are fictional, but…

New Year, New Feature: a Speculative Fiction Writing Prompt
An awesome pic from Diana to use as writing inspiration for January #WritingPrompt.
I wish you all a wonderfully creative, happy, healthy, and safe new year, full of laughter and love.
**
After 5+ years of blogging, I thought I’d try something new… finally. How about a Monthly Speculative Fiction Writing Prompt? Sue Vincent was the inspiration for this idea since I’ve loved participating in her weekly prompts (check out her extremely popular feature here.)
If you’re interested, here’s how it will work:
On the first of every month, I’ll post a speculative fiction prompt from Pixabay. These images are attribution free so you can use them on your blog without worrying about copyright restrictions.
Throughout the month, I’ll reblog your prompt-inspired stories, poems, reflections, writing. And on the last day of each month, I’ll share a complete round-up of all contributions with links to the original posts. Visiting the blogs of participants is a great way to meet other…

Colleen’s Weekly Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge Poets Choice of Words #Edinburgh #Shadorma #Poetry #Photography #City #New Year

It’s poet’s choice of words this week so I thought I’d share with you some of my photographs of Edinburgh – a city I love so much – and my first attempts at Shadorma poetry…
It calls me
This Scottish City
Beautiful
Lights twinkle
Edinburgh’s dark shadows
Perfect time and place
Your buildings
Adorned like parcels
Pink in blue
They twinkle
My home from home forever
The best gift of all

I see you
Bright castle hiding
Beyond trees
Magic night
Such a blue sky highlights you.
Nestled on a hill

Me and mum
Posing together
Two gals out
Shopping trip
But much more – mother daughter
Friends, always best friends.

Ah, you can see I’m home-sick already! Missing my mum and dad and Edinburgh. Sigh.
Do you have a home from home that calls to you too?

Nothing quite like the terror of hitting the publish button
Craig has some news and its very entertaining. Do read this about the launch of his new book Voyage of The Lanternfish.
I got to the writing cabin early this morning. So early, Lisa was still recharging her batteries.
I wasted no time heading for my office, but Lisa intercepted me at my computer, at least her voice did.
“I need another hour of juice.” Her voice came from the speakers. “I’ve never seen you so early before. I sent a command to the coffee pot to start brewing, but you’ll have to give it twelve minutes and eighteen seconds to brew.”
Doubt, the raven, watched me with his malignant gaze. He spread his ebony wings and glided over to the desk.
I loaded my manuscript, chose some keywords, added a cover.
“Blork, pik, pik.”
I think that means how much I suck, but could not be dissuaded.
I winged it when it came to the blurb. I always do this, and really should spend a month getting it just right. For…

After I broke my back , for the second time, almost ten years ago I was in hospital for over a month. I had three operations and was told I could end up in a wheelchair. I was in a lot of pain, I was scared,my life was dropping apart and friends were just disappearing.
Well I almost sunk, luckily for me I was sent to a pain phycologist. After a few visits she asked me if I had ever considered writing about my pain, fears and feelings.
Two of my sons helped me set up a wordpress…
