RonovanWrites #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt #Challenge #54 Free&Think

This week’s prompt words for Ron’s Weekly Haiku Challenge are Free and Think.

Here’s the link to Ronovan’s blog to join in the challenge: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/07/20/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-54-free-think/

Both of my Haiku this week are more serious in nature, this is a bit unusual for me but somehow the prompt words seemed to lead me down a more thoughtful path. Of the two Haiku the second one is more light-hearted.

The following Haiku are especially for anyone who is or has ever experienced the overpowering symptoms of anxiety. This is much more common than you would ever believe possible, it seems that this fast paced world that we now live in is the perfect breeding grown for anxiety symptoms.

Anxiety

Free my racing pulse

No thought but relentless fear

Anxiety bites

My second Haiku is inspired by AAT, whatever could that be?

Read all about it after this haiku, a much needed hug for all sufferers getting through another day, living with the crippling effects of anxiety.

Words good or bad, are my very own!

At my daughter’s University, they had this special event, dogs where brought into  campus for students to help counter stress relief. A hug a dog day or something like that! The official term is Animal Assisted Therapy or AAT for short. Which also happens to be the abbreviation for Accounting technicians, I know which of the two I prefer!

What a great idea, not the accounting I hasten to add. I’d rather hug a cat or dog than add up a row of figures any day of the week, and I should know I used to be a book-keeper many years ago!

Here’s a link to find out more about Animal Assisted Therapy:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal-assisted_therapy

Let’s not go without mentioning a new development regarding our cat friends, CAT CAFE’S!

I’ve just found out there’s one in Edinburgh, which I must go and visit.

It’s called Maison de Moggy and it’s in Stockbridge: http://catcafes.co.uk/uk-cat-cafes/maison-de-moggy/

I’m planning to go up in August, but the trip will be a stressful one as my mum is going into hospital for an operation. She loves cats so maybe when she’s feeling up to it, I’ll take her for a bit of R & R to the cat café.

For more cat cafés in the UK and abroad visit: http://catcafes.co.uk/

There’s a shed load of benefits attributed to owning a cat or a dog. Here’s the ones that spring readily to mind: great for reducing your blood pressure, making you more active (taking your dog for a walk,) widening your social network with other dog/cat owners, staving of loneliness, and reducing stress!

No wonder so many writers have a dog or a cat. I’m missing out…… My pet free way of unwinding is going to Tai Chi or doing a bit of Yoga, and having a bubble bath and a glass of wine does wonders for me too….

So whether it’s hugging a human friend or a dog or cat, it’s all so very good for you.

Check out Val Boyko’s wonderful blog which is full of tips to nourish and restore you: http://findyourmiddleground.com/2015/06/22/stressed-quick-tips-to-nourish-and-restore/

Please do comment, I love to hear from you. Have you a dog or a cat? Or an unusual pet? Have you any tips about reducing stress?

Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Prompt Challenge Guide & Mad

ronovan-writes-haiku-challenge-shadow

RonovanWrites #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt #Challenge #53 Guide & Mad

What could this weeks Haiku poetry prompt challenge from Ronovan Writes be?

Ah the two words are Guide and Mad.

So what will I make of the prompt words guide and mad, could someone be driving me mad? Or are they guiding me to do something that I really should pay attention to? I don’t always listen, especially if I’m being coerced into doing something I don’t enjoy. Particularly if that unwelcome activity is taking me away from my writing! Ah, how dreadful. How could you ask me to abandon my blogging! Sacre bleu! Especially when I’m helping someone learn how to use WordPress.  I’m spreading the word, doing my best to nurture another blogging hero.

Alright now you’re probably thinking what in heavens is she going on about?

tree-220664__180

Is she mad? Possibly a little!

I’ve been helping my sister in law set up her blog and well a certain someone wasn’t too pleased that I wasn’t doing what they wanted me to do. Ah, you can see my predicament, you can never please everyone can you? Least of all your nearest and dearest.

So with that in mind, here’s a little confession. Moi, I can be a very stubborn individual, a total rascal! Oh La La!!!

So this haiku is inspired by my stubborn spirit. I’m a Scorpio after all. I’m quiet on the surface, easy going, but underneath it all I have a saved up unexpected sting in my tail that comes out to play when you least expect it! Oh well it had to happen sooner or later. I’ve had this blog for over a year now, it was about time I told you about the real me. Warts and all. Sting and all. Tail and all.

Enough’s enough. I suppose I’ll have to be a good lass tomorrow but today I can do whatever I like!!! So I’m writing two posts to be published this week. Tee Hee!!!

Don’t tell anyone will you? I love secrets.

Ring, Ring, Don’t Call Me.
You can guide but don’t change me
Your mad I’m Scorpio

My final Haiku is based on a real life event apparently kids were sneaking onto my dad’s golf course and picking magic mushrooms! Whatever next! This golfer looks very disgusted doesn’t he? He’d say something like this: “Magic Mushrooms, shocking! Why can’t they take up a healthy activity like golf?  If I hadn’t seen this wicked magic mushroom picking with my own straight to the pin golfer’s eyes I’d would have to conclude that I’d been on the MM’s myself.”

Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Prompt Challenge #52 Silent & Loud.

https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/07/06/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-52-silent-loud/

This week’s image from Ron is Meridith, of Meredith’s Musings. Most definitely a blog to follow if you aren’t already.

At the moment the building work is progressing in the kitchen but unfortunately we have had a few problems, everything seems to be going on the blink. Today, the washing machine decided to pack in, just after it finished a load of sheets, can’t get the blooming door to open, and our boiler isn’t working either. So loud bangs with boilers accompanied by silent washing machines, such is life!

So Silent and Loud seem quite appropriate prompt words. How does Ron do it, is he psychic?

The loud beep beep cries

A final spin forget it

Silent no chance mate

The next haiku kind of happens sometimes in our house, we have this mad bird who takes great pleasure in dive bombing our lounge window. Very strange. I think the bird sees the wall opposite which is painted green and gets confused. I’m always amazed that this bird keeps on coming and survives ! He’s real cute too, just wish he wasn’t so daft!

Anyway, let’s hope that nothing else breaks down, or I might be joining the bird banging my head against the window too!

Our visiting crazy bird isn’t a hummingbird but I liked this photo so allow me to introduce you to the Dive Bombing Bird:

Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge #51 Future & Give

challenge51

This weeks Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge words are Future & Give.

Do stop by Ronovan Writes and see all that his blog has to offer, and why not join in the haiku challenge? It’s such fun!

RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge #51 Future&Give

My haiku this week are inspired by the birth of a baby girl, the granddaughter of a friend of mine. The prompt words future and give just seem to be such a perfect choice this week. A baby is such a hopeful start, a promise of future, a gift giving joy to family, and friends.

Of course I’ve had two baby girls too, many, many years ago, but those early days with a new born are still such precious memories. My first child Natasha was born early, as if she was impatient to join us, desperate to discover all there was to know about the world. She was born two weeks early on Christmas day, on the very day that I was supposed to have my Christmas dinner with friends! This was to be the first of many small sacrifices that I was to make as a parent. I wonder if being born early or late has any bearing on the person we become? Does it shape our character in some way? I think it possibly does. My youngest daughter Georgina was born exactly on her due date. The midwife said, “You’ll have no trouble with this one.” In some ways it was true baby Georgina was a very good baby, Baby Natasha was a handful! In fact the staff at the nursery that Natasha went to said that she was like a whirlwind!  Yes, a whirlwind, a delightful one, or at least that’s what I thought! What about Georgina? My baby angel!  In fact that early quiet start should have been a warning: A Calm Before The Teenage Storm! Both of my girls have had their whirlwind moments possibly at different times in their development, but that’s what makes them who they are, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge Review 50

Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Review. Check it out. Lots of great haiku. Serious Haiku winner this week Martha of Meredith’s Musings: Aspiration and two winning Humour Haiku: Mari T. of Overcoming Static: Pursuing Growth, and E. Rawls of E. Rawls: Author creating stories and art: Plights of a Merchant, plus Ronovan’s closing haikus too!

Ronovan's avatarronovanwrites

First, you can still submit your entry to the challenge and have it added to the Review.

Second, for future reviews, as the number of poets are increasing and my functioning hours are decreasing due to health, I am allergic to heat and it’s exacerbating my other conditions and it’s been 100 degrees here lately and no air in my room, that’s what you get for living in a house that was a school house a hundred years ago, the reviews may be minus my comments. I think the comments may actually take away from people being able to get to all of the Haiku anyway, but I know some people enjoy it when I am in a good enough way to have fun with them. Yes, I get goofy sometimes. 🙂

Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge #50 Gain & Hound

RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge #50 Gain&Hound

Time for another Haiku challenge, this week’s prompt words from Ronovan Writes are Gain and Hound. It kind of puts me in mind of my current situation. We’re in the process of modernising our kitchen, so I’ll gain a new kitchen but in the meantime I’m hounded by dust, debris, dirt and doubts! Are we spending too much? Did we really need to knock down walls? Oh too late, here’s what it looks like with steel girders holding it up!

WP_20150622_19_23_37_Pro

On top of it all the project manager from the kitchen fitters has gone off sick. So nobody seems to know what they’re doing. That worrying thought is hounding me too!

Then we found out that our daughter had run up a huge mobile phone bill. (She’s in deep water.)

Eek, so please forgive me if a little anxiety creeps into my haiku this week. So to counterbalance my rising anxiety levels let’s have a smiley faced puppet to ward off my Hounding Kitchen Fears:

 Hounding Kitchen Fears

Gain a new kitchen

Let go of those growing fears

Hey Stop Hounding Me!

And another one which is not kitchen orientated! It’s about a skinhead hound, hope you never meet one!

The hound dogged my dreams

No gain for me as I slept

Just skinhead nightmares

RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge Review 49

Thrilled that my haiku Monkey Says won the humour choice last week, thank you so much Ron. I love writing humorous haiku! I find it so much more difficult to write serious haiku, so well done to the winner of the serious choice haiku, Melissa Barker-Simpson (Author): Incessant Chatter. Hats off to you. Take a look at Ronovan’s review list of wonderful haiku bloggers there are so many to choose from, all so good.

Ronovan's avatarronovanwrites

You will notice I am late. Also only half or the Haiku have comments with them. I hope I at least saw all the links on the challenge post. I wasn’t able to go hunting for Haiku this time around. I don’t normally give reasons for lateness but since I also don’t have comments with some, I feel one is in order. Saturday was my birthday and I went to a movie for the first time in two years. Good movie, disastrous results. Then I had to go to my parents for Father’s Day. Combine the two and I have been in bed most of the weekend with a very extreme migraine and various Fibromyalgia pains.

Next week we’ll be back to normal with the review. As for the photo? In case anyone wondered that’s actually my mouth. I just painted using samples of the colors from a photo with…

Haiku Poetry prompt Challenge #48 Inspire & Loss

RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge #48 Inspire&Loss

Inspire and Loss – what a wonderful pairing, I’m going to enjoy this weeks Haiku Challenge from Ronovan Writes.

It’s funny how a couple of words can take you on a strange journey, into a surreal picnic setting with a tree,  a floating piece of grass, and a kite attached to the tree. Oh and a passionate kiss, nearly forgot that! How could I? If this loved up couple move an inch on their picnic playground there’s a chance they will fall of their half bubble of perfectly maintained grass. Never mind that kite, they should have tethered themselves to the tree as well, just in case, you can never be too careful! But passion doesn’t tend to go hand in hand with caution does it? Nope, it sure doesn’t. Oops…..

Moving on from the loss of Kite Boy, let’s take a moment to reflect on this still life. After Kite Boy’s gone I think the peacock feather will be plucked, colour dashed, so sad……………

WELCOME TO KYROSMAGICA

Let’s indulge in a bit of Haiku Heaven this Friday, and where better to start this creative process than Ronovan Write’s weekly Haiku Challenge.

In this modern age when tweets can mean more than bird sounds this kind of ruffled my bird feathers, so I came up with a tweeting haiku I do hope you like it!

Weekly Haiku Prompt Challenge, Think # 46, Fresh

challenge46

https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/05/25/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-46-think-fresh/
So the challenge words this week from Ronovan are Think and Fresh.

Well let me see………………………..

I couldn’t come up with a serious one this week, somehow think and fresh just didn’t lead me down that path. In fact I’d say that these two prompt words took me to some rather strange places. Sorry failed miserably, on the plus side I came up with two funny ones instead!
