Colleen’s Weekly Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge No. 88 Praise and Excite

I’ve been so busy of late trying to find a new job – I was meant to be starting a new contract just after the bloggers bash in London – but found my proposed terms of the new employment unacceptable which is a story in itself! When I read through the company pack it seemed that perhaps they might have a rat problem,  asbestos on site and random drug testing – so that didn’t appeal! Lol.  I decided not to accept that role. So, it’s been time-consuming trying to find another job.

In the meantime I’ve been taking my mind off the horrendous hassle of job hunting by writing book reviews, creating a mobi/epub copy of Book One for reviewers (SO REVIEWERS IF YOU’D LIKE A COPY DON’T BE SHY!) and working on Book Two in the Curse of Time series – The Golden Healer  – which is currently standing at a rough draft of about 50,000 words.

Lots still to do in The Curse of Time Series.  I’m starting to think about the potential for a powerful dragon – a volcanic stirrer of passions in Book Three!

It is my intention that Book Three will feature the Dragon Chronopage designed by  Dr John C Taylor OBE who I had the pleasure of meeting in September 2017 with Tina Fotherby.

So, my Tanka is dedicated to the dragon, the grasshopper and the fly which are all Chronopages created by Dr John C Taylor, OBE.

The dragon gave thanks,

To the kleptomaniac,

Grasshopper who danced,

Now came dragon’s pearly chance,

To spark volcanic passions.

For praise I used the synonym gave thanks, and for excite I chose spark.

Poetry Inspired by the Dragon Chronopage – Colleen’s Weekly #Poetry Challenge No. 50 #Haiku #Tanka #Haibun: VOICE & WATCH

I’ve had a fantastic week, on Monday I met the esteemed inventor Dr John C Taylor, OBE.

What an experience, Dr Taylor is an extraordinary person. He is an inventor, pilot, adventurer, photographer, architect and philanthropist. After meeting him it’s no wonder that I’d be inspired to write a Tanka poem about one of his amazing Chronopage inventions. He has three in total, the Corpus Chronopage below resembles a grasshopper and features on the front cover of my novel.

Here I am with Dr Taylor by the Corpus Chronopage in King’s Parade, Cambridge.

Below is the Midsummer Chronopage, a huge mythical fly-like creature with intricate wings and a sting in its tail.

And the interactive Dragon Chronopage does everything a dragon should short of breathing fire and flying away.

Isn’t the Dragon Chronopage fabulous?

Using Colleen’s prompt words this week – voice and watch – I wrote a little Tanka poem. I used statement instead of voice and I kept watch even though I had chronograph.

Before I tootle off I’d just like to say that Dr Taylor has some magnificent stamps that you can order and collect featuring his wonderful inventions – all proceeds go to the Teapot Trust – a worthy charity – art therapy for children with chronic illness:  http://www.teapot-trust.org/

Here’s the link to order @DrJCTOBE  stamps: https://www.iompost.com/stamps-coins/collection/invention-and-innovation-dr-john-c-taylor-obe/

All funds received by Dr Taylor from sales of these stamps will be donated to the
Teapot Trust.

#SundayBlogShare MJ Interviews The Grasshopper – The Curse of Time.

Corpus Christi Chronophage Detail.jpg

A big welcome… (If I dare!) to my next interviewee the intriguing Grasshopper, a fine bug of a creature who features in my soon to be released YA Fantasy – The Curse of Time: Book 1: Bloodstone. I have set a tentative date for the release of my e-book – 26th August, so keep a look out for further details and updates about that.

Today, I am interviewing  the Grasshopper using the initials MJ – (my author nickname and tribute to my favourite superhero Spiderman’s Mary Jane!)

MJ: Grasshopper, I’m speechless, is that really you? Have you come to eat me up?

Grasshopper: Of course not dear girl, I don’t eat humans, even though I have pincer sharp teeth.

MJ: I can see that… Oh, what a relief! Tell me all about yourself Mr. Grasshopper.

Grasshopper: I am the world’s largest grasshopper escapement. I’m crafted out of the finest materials, only the very best for me.

MJ: Could you explain a little about the Corpus Christi Chronopage?

Grasshopper: The Chronopage is a large sculptural clock, and my home. It is the brainchild of a team of two hundred talented people including sculptors, engineers, scientists, jewellers, and calligraphers. It includes not one, not two, but six new patented inventions.

MJ: How extraordinary! It is a breath-taking invention and I have always found you phenomenally intriguing Mr. Grasshopper. Not surprisingly, you draw crowds of onlookers and tourists on King’s Parade.

Grasshopper: Oh, yes, no one can resist me. I provoke a reaction, people pause, take photos, respond in horror, or delight. And all the while time marches on, in its cruel, relentless manner.

MJ: Such is life. Hence the spikey teeth?

Grasshopper: Yes, I eat away at your life, your youth, your beauty. Sadly, it is my fate.  I am at the mercy of my tragic role in this Chronopage. No one is exempt. I am its wretched servant.
