Merry Christmas hope you are having a lovely day with friends and family.
I’ve got a very full tummy so no gymnastics for me! No chance I’ll come down the chimney ever again…
All the best,

One of the things I discovered as we were sitting in the taxi on route to catch our bus to Heathrow was I’d forgotten my coat! So, I ended up borrowing my eldest daughter’s jacket when I could – this furry brown one was my favourite!
Here I am at Venice, Montreal, wearing her jacket and my woolly hat! And here she is when she grabbed it back on a later day outside Bevo Bar and Pizzeria!410 Rue Saint Vincent, Montreal QC H2Y 3A5
As you can see we stopped for a cocktail – the first of many!!! We went there on another evening to sample their fantastic pizzas. Yum…
I did buy myself a new jacket… think tulips and jazzy coat. I’m in the slideshow below. The tulips were stunning at the Botanical Gardens, Montreal. Talk about a field of colour…
Getting back to cocktails. See the green one below? That was my favourite! We were on a rooftop bar, and it was the bizz!
The food… Boy, was it tasty – my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Here are a few of the amazing dishes we tried… Look at this plate of beautiful food at Arthurs Nosh Bar… 4621 Notre-Dame O Rue, Montreal QC H4C 1S5 Not only does it look like a work of art it tasted like one too! It was well worth the wait. We had to queue to get in but this looked and tasted fantastic. A definite favourite!
And these two meals were from the same pub which was very near our AirBnB, Pub Bishop and Bagg 52 Rue Saint Viateur O, Montreal QC H2T 2K8 the food was amazing. See those potatoes they were cooked to perfection. Yum… And there vegetarian option was fantastic too. All very hearty but tasty food.
Then, we tried a vegetarian/vegan place called Lov. I chose the vegan burger and it was fab. 464 McGill Rue, Montral QC H2Y 2H2
https://www.lov.com/
At Taiyo we ordered from a tablet on our table and after a while we couldn’t quite remember just how much we ordered! Needless to say we ate everything but had less room for the amazing banana fritters. 1709 Rue Saint-Denis, Montréal H2X 3K4.
Montreal is definitely a foodie’s paradise. This is just a sample of some of the amazing restaurants we went to and the cocktails… what can I say? Whilst on holiday, it’s imperative to let your hair down!
Time for a diet… and detox. Lol.

I’m just back from a lovely holiday with my two daughters in Montreal.
Everywhere I looked there appeared to be Grafitti murals on the streets. Being a big fan of Graffiti murals I thought I’d share them with you.
See the one above? It’s the very first mural I saw on my holiday situated near our Airbnb in Laurier.
Eerie isn’t it?
Here are some of the other ones I came across… The girl in the mural below looks sad too…
I like how the next mural blends in with it surroundings. The real flowers joining the painted flowers in an unusual way! We stopped in this area for a coffee at Cafe Olympico.
The next one’s kind of exotic. But those bushes really need cutting back! We’re missing out on the bottom part of the mural in Quartier Latin.
This is also in the Quartier Latin. Very bright and vibrant like this area of Montreal.
Then here’s one from Mont-Royal
If you are planning on visiting Montreal and would like to find out more about their street art check out this post: https://www.mtl.org/en/experience/montreal-murals-101

It’s poet’s choice of words this week so I thought I’d share with you some of my photographs of Edinburgh – a city I love so much – and my first attempts at Shadorma poetry…
It calls me
This Scottish City
Beautiful
Lights twinkle
Edinburgh’s dark shadows
Perfect time and place
Your buildings
Adorned like parcels
Pink in blue
They twinkle
My home from home forever
The best gift of all
I see you
Bright castle hiding
Beyond trees
Magic night
Such a blue sky highlights you.
Nestled on a hill
Me and mum
Posing together
Two gals out
Shopping trip
But much more – mother daughter
Friends, always best friends.

Do you have a home from home that calls to you too?

My hubby and I went for a long weekend to Lisbon. Unfortunately I had a fall on holiday and hurt my foot. I’d been out the night before at the Hard Rock Cafe, (indulging in cocktails and behaving like I’m one of the youngsters.)
My hubby and I were listening to a very good cover band. The next day I was feeling pretty good – no hangover! But it was raining heavily and the cobbled pavements were very slippery.
We arrived at this spot – we’d been there the evening before. This was taken when it was sunny…
The next day the band were there again. They were about to set up. Imagine those wet cobble stones, see that foot. It’s probably mine. Yes, you get the picture.
I felt a sharp pain
Hubby rushed to help me up
Good nothing broken
A hard rock holiday fall
A low-risk trip, groan get up!
So the band and my hubby rushed towards me to help. I felt like a celebrity!
It was my birthday but it was not quite what I had in mind for a birthday present. Lol.
Still the Altis hotel made up for it with this unexpected surprise.
Luckily no major harm done but I am still hobbling about a bit.
… Ouch.. I should have caught this instead…
If I had I would have admired this awesome graffiti… Which I did on another occasion.
I should have hugged a tree instead to stay safe. This one reminded me of an enormous, hairy gorilla with big caring arms!
Luckily the first two days were very sunny. Blue shades weather. I pinched my hubby’s sunglasses. He said they suited me!
We saw some wild life – this charming fellow caught my eye… He looks astonished doesn’t he? Camera shy perhaps? Or perhaps he heard about my fall.
All in all I had a lovely birthday break away in Lisbon. It’s a beautiful city, I’d really recommend a visit.
I LOVE PORTUGAL.
But watch out for those cobbled streets in the rain. I wish I hadn’t had that fall. But, it could have been much worse.
I’m grateful I didn’t get whisked away in an ambulance – this has happened to me and various other family members before…
We are very accident prone. Check out this post:

Ghostly Goodbye by M J Mallon
Ghostly Goodbye is a paranormal love story about a young woman called Iris who can’t get over her husband’s death. She is mourning him so much that she feels dead inside. Her husband Ed sends her a ghostly message from beyond the grave via an old forgotten garment in her wardrobe. She responds by dragging herself from her tomb-like bed and he draws back the curtain of death to visit her in a most unusual way.

Wishing you all a very Happy Easter.
I’m still on a bit of a blogging break until my eldest daughter returns to University so will be somewhat scarce in blogging land.
I had a wonderful holiday up in Edinburgh but it was all too short…
Here are some of my photos:
That’s one of me and my daughter Georgina before I had my lunch…. I tend to shrink when I’m hungry! We were at a very nice restaurant called The Railbridge Bistro in South Queensferry which overlooks the bridges and has haggis on the menu!
And here’s my lovely mum and dad… Missing them…
My dad hates the cold, and though the view at South Queensferry is amazing it was bitterly chilly… My mum looks okay, in fact she dares to look a bit amused but poor dad…
Since I’ve been back in Cambridge, I’ve had a lovely time with my eldest daughter who is visiting from University.
Recently we went out to a cafe in Cambridge…
And she approved of my photo… The drink looks like some sort of Dr Who concoction but I believe it is a green tea matcha. Oh, by the way did you see the Dr Who episode last night? If you did I bet you didn’t dare have a shower or bath before bedtime. I love it when Dr Who gets all scary!
Then, there’s me all dressed up as I had work afterwards. Recently, I started working part-time at Ann Summers – which is a strangest job I have ever had! It’s a bit like marmite some days I love it, some days I hate it! Ha ha…. It’s a tricky one for an introvert with extrovert tendencies. Anyway, that plate in front of me is the remains of a very tasty Orange and Polenta cake that we shared at Espresso Library cafe in Cambridge.

Missing you Portugal! We stayed at this all inclusive hotel in Porches, the Algarve – Be Live Palmeiras Village. This is the pool area with a slide – there were two pools with bars – where you could wile away the sunny day with a cocktail in hand! I’d highly recommended this hotel especially for families with young children, the entertainment on offer to keep them occupied was excellent. The poolside activities such as Water Zumba were also great fun, and there was a daily program of evening entertainment too. There were two buffet areas included in the all – inclusive price plus three extra restaurants with a small charge attached. The food was diverse, catering for most tastes. In general I’d recommend Buffet 2 as there was an outdoor seated area to enjoy your food in the sun, rather than eat inside in the other larger buffet area within the hotel itself which felt like a food hall.
We discovered this wonderful cave cut through the cliff face linking two beaches near our hotel.
It was well worth it!
Here I am with my daughters about to explore what’s beyond the cave…
And here’s the reward – a beautiful beach on the other side.
Talk about tranquil golden sand, textured with footprints of assorted humans, occasional dogs who have escaped from their owners – rolling in furry abandon on the sand, not to mention the crazy seagulls. One minute those seagulls were tranquilly standing on one leg, stretching their wings, doing a tai chi move, the next they were dive bombing us!
Striking cliffs and that sea……so rich with hues of colour. An artist’s dream.
These wonderful cliffs are everywhere in Portugal and provide a great backdrop for family photos.
A holiday to Portugal wouldn’t be complete without a boat trip. The four of us went via Albufeira on a well organised day out. We had a wonderful experience stopping at a beautiful bay for a barbeque of fresh fish, pork, salad and wine.
No wonder my hubby and I are smiling!
Here is the lovely boat we sailed on..
Perhaps I might have convinced you to visit Portugal. It is one of my favourite holiday destinations – I have been to the Algarve three times, and loved it each time!

Hi,
I’m on a bit of a holiday so just a little note to let my followers know that I won’t be posting as much for a while, though I might be tempted to join in the writing #BlogBattle and I will be replying to comments so do feel free to chat. The good news is my mum is doing wonderfully well after her operation, she’s some lady, in her seventies and as feisty as ever! We’re getting our orders, tee hee, she’s a laugh. I think she even had the nurses at her beck and call, sounds like they treated her like royalty!
My journey started off terribly badly I did a crazy thing I turned up at the wrong station! In my defence I’ve never done this before, this was a first. I went to Waterbeach (our nearest station) instead of Cambridge. A few days prior to travel I had picked up my tickets from the ticket machine at Waterbeach, and somehow had it in my head that I was travelling from Waterbeach. So my husband had to try to beat the train! A racing challenge, just up his street! He drove me to the next station on the route, it was a hair-raising drive. I really thought there was no way he could do it but amazingly he did and with a few minutes to spare! Luckily the train was running two minutes late and we’d left the house in good time. Phew!!!!
The train journey was lively to say the least we had the cast of one of the shows on our carriage and they were a boisterous lot, you could tell they were actors, they liked to be noticed. I’ve never heard a bunch of people laugh so much. At one point we arrived at a place called Northallerton in North Yorkshire and they queried whether this fairy tale sounding town existed, I reckon they thought it was some sort of Narnialand.
On arrival I decided to walk through Princess Street gardens to get a feeling for Festival Fever, boy it was busy, luckily I just have one small piece of luggage with me. I arrived at my bus stop, and guess what, wonder of wonders my mother in law was standing there apparently waiting for a bus! What are the odds of that? Amazing. Anyway we had a brief chat and then she had to dash off to find her bus, she was at the wrong stop, apparently all the buses are a bit confusing at the moment with the Festival being on.
So I’m up in Edinburgh, sans enfants and sans husband, I intend on catching up with old friends, maybe visiting the cat café in Stockbridge, going to the Book Festival, and the dance and drama events at the International Festival, and the Art galleries if I get a chance. I shall be going out with my dad for Chinese lunch, visiting my mother-in-law, catching up with my brother and generally eating too much. Yum….
I’ll be helping out with mum, cooking, and generally doing my Florence Nightingale bit. You can see why blogging has to take a back seat. Hope my mum will be able to join us out and about towards the end of next week. Unfortunately it is dreadfully busy in Edinburgh at the moment, with all the excitement of the Festivals, the town is packed so it is not very easy to manoeuvre around if you’ve just had an operation. So we will have a duty to try to keep her in, to ensure she rests, no easy task for a lady who is always so full of energy. Let the battle commence…..
I’ve packed a couple of books to catch up on, a bit of holiday reading. My current read is The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh, which is a rich descriptive read inspired by One Thousand and One Nights, I’m really enjoying this. As well as this I intend to read The Bonesetter’s Daughter by Amy Tan. “A dramatic tale of love, loss and betrayal in Provincial China, told with directness and deep feeling.” Mail on Sunday.
If I finish these two there are a wealth of detective novels in my mum and dad’s house so I don’t think I will be short of reading material, and of course I’m sure I’ll pick up some new novels at the Book Festival. How exciting!!! I love Edinburgh, me home from home, only slight gripe it’s so cold here, I don’t think I’ll be needing that sun hat and shades, a woolly hat would be more useful.
Anyway Happy Holidays, hope if you are going anywhere nice you have a wonderful time.
Bye for now.
Marje @ Kyrosmagica xx
Our summer holiday this year was in Newquay, Cornwall. We decided to journey there by train and hire a car for a few days. The train journey was very relaxing and a great opportunity to catch up on some reading. There were no hitches, we got to Newquay in the early evening as expected and took a taxi to our apartment. Or at least we thought we did! The taxi driver took us to the wrong block of flats, and we ended up standing outside shouting up at some random guy on a balcony, who told us that we were at Ocean View instead of our apartment and could we move out-of-the-way as we were blocking the drive! Well, this has never happened to me before, even though I have been all over the world, and travelled to some weird and wonderful places, where you would expect this to be much more likely.
My husband phoned the taxi company who complained a bit but did pick us up. The same lady taxi driver drove us the short distance down the hill to our apartment. As it turned out we could have walked, it was just a short distance away. It didn’t quite look like the holiday photo from the internet but anyway, we had arrived. From that point on things got even more peculiar. We walked into a parking area that seemed to be high security. There were numbers to type in to open the gate, a number to open the door to the basement, and a strange black, plastic box with another security number for the key. The owners of the apartment certainly had a sense of humour, the key had a smiley face on it and the welcoming mat at the front door said, Keep Calm and Come In. The apartment was lovely, a true home from home with everything you could ask for and more. It was a bit of a shame that it was a bit rowdy at night but I think we chose the height of the stag weekends to arrive, and well it was the centre of Newquay so what can you expect? The stag revellers were quite entertaining. Costumes seem a big Stag item nowadays, one group of 13-15 guys were all in Marvel costumes. I saw a couple of them crossing the road, hand in hand, very fetching I must say. They came back later dripping wet, their ebullient spirits, and elaborate costumes somewhat dampened by a sudden downpour of rain!
The holiday was great. Cornwall is just so beautiful. The beaches are great, the views are spectacular. What more could you ask for? Well, a little bit more sunshine would have been nice. But mustn’t complain it only rained a little. We began by gatecrashing the Headland Hotel, we stopped for a cappuccino, and basked in the sun. It was so relaxing I could have snoozed off. We swam in the sea, got thrown about by the waves, travelled to St Ives, and Padstow.
The Thursday before we returned home we went to the Minack Theatre, Porthcorno, http://www.minack.com/. This is a “world-famous open-air theatre created from a cliffside at Porthcurno by Rowena Cade.” Not surprisingly this breathtaking spot has won many awards, and it is only a short distance away from Lands End. We went to see The Producers which was a riot. The images from the musical can be seen, at the following link http://www.minack.com/showproducers14.htm. The journey there was long, the traffic was busy but it was well worth it. Rain was forecast so we had come in our jeans and tee-shirts with brollies at the ready but it was one of the hottest days. Thank goodness I had packed suncream, and my sunhat, oh and a packed lunch and drinks. My daughter stole my favourite blue sun hat, but I wasn’t going to deprive her, she’s so fair-skinned.
While I was in Cornwall I got to thinking about Cornish gastronomic delights well Cornish Pasties and Cream teas to be exact. Lean cuisine isn’t exactly a feature of Cornish cuisine. I wondered why? It must be the rugged scenery, the wind swept hill tops, the waves pounding the shore that make people yearn for a scone, jam and clotted cream, fish and chips, or a hearty Cornish pasty. Oh, and the pirates you can just see them tucking in can’t you?
If you go with children, or teenagers you’re bound to part with your money for a temporary tattoo. Well older ones might succumb to a permanent one but that’s a different story. My youngest got a star pattern on her foot, I was quite sceptical, I thought that it wouldn’t last very long but it’s still there and we’ve been back nearly a month now! The tattoo ladies do a roaring trade on sunny days but our last day it rained all day long. I saw her as we walked past, she didn’t have a customer in sight but she still managed a smile as we walked by.
Well, my husband and the girls braved the weather and went into the sea for a farewell quick dip. I stayed on the beach, and watched, while posing as an idiot manning an umbrella. Then we went to the cinema, a first choice activity for a rainy day, and watched Guardians of The Galaxy in 3D. I loved the tree character, Groot, he didn’t say much but somehow he was so memorable!
In keeping with all good holidays we ate a little too much, drank more than we do normally and had an enjoyable time. But the thought that struck me when I was on my way home was this: how lucky we are to have two teenagers that are a pleasure to be with. They don’t whine or give us a hard time. I must have done something right. Or am I hallucinating? But changes are coming and fast. My eldest is going to University this autumn. The family dynamic as we know it is going to change. How I will miss her. Life is full of these moments. I remember back to both of my childrens’ final year at primary school. When my eldest finished somehow it didn’t affect me in the same way but when my youngest left it seemed such a sad occasion. My last child at primary school. I looked around and all the other mothers in the same boat looked tearful, and so did the children. I think we all sensed that secondary school was a big change, and of course we were right. That was such an emotional occasion, and I think the changes coming this autumn will be too. I will have to pack a hanky or two, not bother to wear any mascara, that will be easy as I rarely do. I will have to brave it up but I have a feeling I will find it hard, so if you happen to be in Brighton in September and see me crying you’ll know why. The seaside always stirs my emotions. Sussex is her first choice University so I’m so delighted that she is going there. I just wish I could sneak in too and re-live those University days! If only.
I’ve digressed and regressed, one minute I’m talking about holidays and the next I’m off to University! Anyway, getting back to the holiday theme, I’ve a few photos to show you. Where did you go this summer or where are you planning on going? I’d love to hear your summer holiday stories. Do tell.
